At Mai Dentistry, we always strive to preserve your natural teeth. Tooth extraction is only recommended when absolutely necessary, and when it is, we ensure that the experience is as comfortable as possible for you.
Do You Need a Tooth Extraction?
There are several reasons why a tooth may need to be extracted. Some of the most common include:
- Dental crowding
- Impacted or painful wisdom teeth
- Tooth trauma, such as cracks or breaks
- Severe decay
- Advanced gum disease with bone loss
- Failed root canal therapy
- Preparation for cosmetic procedures or braces

What Does a Tooth Extraction Involve?
The procedure typically begins with numbing the area where the tooth is to be removed. Once the area is numbed, the tooth is carefully extracted from the gum tissue and bone. In some cases, we may recommend placing a bone graft to preserve the jawbone, which can aid in future restorative procedures like implants or bridges.

What to Expect After the Procedure
After the extraction, our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions and any necessary medications, including antibiotics, steroids, and possibly pain relievers. Local anesthesia may leave your mouth numb for a few hours, but most patients return to their normal activities within a day. Within a couple of weeks, you’ll notice the extraction site beginning to heal.

Feeling Nervous About Your Tooth Extraction?
For most patients without a dental phobia, a tooth extraction is manageable. Mai Dentistry ensures that you are comfortable every step of the way. We’ll explain the procedure, ensure you are properly numbed, and go over detailed aftercare instructions. If you have dental anxiety, we offer sedation options to make the procedure more relaxed.
